1. In 2004, the Symantec corporation established a partnership with the national Department of Education through which all public schools in South Africa would receive free access to Symantec's computer security software (anti-virus, anti-spam and anti-spyware). That agreement expired on the 31 March 2010.
2. The national Department of Basic Education (DBE) has entered into a new 3-year contract with Symantec South Africa for the period 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2013, and is now in possession of software copies and the licensing keys for SYMANTEC ENDPOINT PROTECTION 11.0.6 MP2 Xplat EN DVD. A copy of this software has been received by Western Cape Education Department for distribution to schools.
3. Schools may place an order for the above-mentioned media kit with Edumedia by completing the attached order form for Symantec products (ANNEXURE A). Schools may choose to collect the media kit from Edumedia or have it posted to them. Orders can be placed as from 21 March 2011.
4. No licence keys will be required for activation.
5. The use of the Symantec software is limited to PCs in public schools. Note that this agreement does not cover teachers' PCs at home, FET colleges and independent schools.
