1. In an effort to support effective teaching and learning in the classroom, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has supplied a 'Study and Master' Numeracy textbook and teacher's guide to all Grade 2 and 3 learners and teachers in public primary schools.
2. The teachers' guides and textbooks have been issued in the school's language of learning and teaching.
3. Each school's Foundation Phase Management team must make sure that the Numeracy textbooks are used daily for teaching and homework purposes.
4. The textbooks must be used in conjunction with the WCED work schedules, the national Department of Basic Education (DBE) work books and lesson plans.
5. The textbooks must be handled with care and recorded in the school's inventory.
6. The attached Annexure A provides guidelines on how to use the textbooks. These guidelines will also be posted on the WCED website at: http//curriculum.wcape.school.za/
7. ECD and FP curriculum advisers will provide assistance to teachers in the use of these books, should schools require it.
8. Principals are requested to bring the content of this minute to the notice of the school management team and the teachers concerned.
