1. The approved Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) will be phased in over the next three years, starting with Grades R to 3 and Grade 10 in January 2012.

2. Curriculum Development Minute 0002/2011, dated 24 June 2011, provided information on progress with the CAPS and the orientation of principals and teachers.

3. The orientation of school management teams (SMTs) and Grade 10 teachers in the education districts will commence during the third term of 2011.

4. Curriculum co-ordination and advice managers in the districts have devised programmes for the orientation and training of SMTs and Grade 10 teachers in subject cluster groups in each district. Logistical information will be sent to schools by the district offices.

5. CAPS Orientation:
5.1 This will start at 15:00 on a Friday after school and continue until 17:00 that day. It will continue on the Saturday, from 08:00 to 17:00.
5.2 Attendance is compulsory for all teachers.

6. Grade 10 Subject Content Training:
6.1 This will take place during the September school vacation on at least two consecutive days, from 08:00 to 16:00.
6.2 Teachers will receive training in the new Grade 10 content of the CAPS.
