1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) formed a partnership with the University of Stellenbosch to beam televised broadcasts of lessons directly to 120 selected high schools (See list of schools in the attached Addendum A).
2. QIDS-UP has since its inception in 2007, provided library resources, such as books, wall-charts, DVDs and library furniture, to all no-fees schools.
3. QIDS-UP has also engaged professional staff from the University of the Western Cape to use the Telematics Platform to stimulate and encourage debate on the use and integration of library resources in the curriculum, using the Telematics Platform.
4. These programmes will take place at each of the 120 schools on 6 and 9 June, from 15:30 to17:30.
5. The programme includes a panel discussion in which teachers in charge of school libraries discuss and engage viewers on school library issues (6 June 2011). On the second day (9 June 2011), the issues of Day 1 will continue to be addressed, but there will also be discussions on the link between literacy and the school library, how the school library can be used by all teachers, and what constitutes the ideal library.
6. We invite all principals, staff and district officials to attend this very exciting programme at any of the 120 schools.
7. Please make arrangements with the school closest to you, as per Addendum A, to be part of this exciting programme.
8. The staff of fee-paying schools who are part of the 120 Telematic Schools are encouraged to attend as school libraries are the concern of all schools.
