1. This minute should be read in conjunction with The National Policy on Assessment and Qualifications for Schools in the General Education and Training Band (Government Gazette No. 29626 of 2007), which stipulates the requirements for progression in Grades R - 8 and promotion in Grade 9.
2. The current progression and promotion requirements, as stipulated in Government Gazette No. 29626, will be used for Grades R - 9 in 2011.
3. Schools in the Western Cape will continue with their own internal programmes of assessment and conduct their own internal examinations in all learning areas in Grade 9.
4. The Grade 9 internal examinations to be conducted in Term 4 must constitute 25% of the final promotion mark for each learning area.
5. The rest of the formal assessments in Grade 9 will constitute 75% of the final promotion mark per learning area.
6. The Grade 9 promotion schedule is now available on the Centralised Education Management Information System (CEMIS), under the heading Reports.
7. As has been the practice in the past, schools must submit an electronic copy of the Grade 9 promotion schedule to their education district offices by 7 December 2011. Education district offices must submit a CD containing all the schools' mark schedules to the Directorate: Assessment Management by 13 December 2011.
