1. This Assessment Minute serves to clarify the Regulations Pertaining to the Conduct, Administration and Management of Assessment for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) with regard to the period of validity of School-Based Assessment (SBA), Practical Assessment Task, Practical Assessment and Oral marks.
2. Regulation 7, sub-regulation (5) (page 14) in the Regulations Pertaining to the Conduct, Administration and Management of Assessment for the National Senior Certificate (Government Gazette No. 31337 of 29 August 2008) states that "The School Based Assessment mark obtained by a repeat candidate in his or her last NSC examination will be valid for a period of three (3) years after the completion of the NSC examination written by the candidate".
3. In terms of this regulation, the SBA mark of a candidate who wrote the NSC examination in 2008 is valid until 2011.
4. Regulation 7, sub-regulation (5) (page 16) in the Regulations Pertaining to the Conduct, Administration and Management of Assessment for the National Senior Certificate, amended in Government Notices numbered 1327 and 1328 in Government Gazette, Vol. 522, No. 31680 of 12 December 2008, and in Government Notices numbered 1041 and 1042 in Government Gazette, Vol. 533, No. 32678 of 3 November 2009, states that "The School Based Assessment, Practical Assessment Task (PAT), Practical Assessment and Oral marks obtained by a candidate in his or her last National Senior Certificate examinations will be valid for a period of two (2) years after the completion of the first National Senior Certificate examinations written by the candidate".
5. In terms of this regulation, the SBA, PAT, Practical Assessment and Oral marks of a candidate who wrote the NSC examinations in 2009 and in subsequent years will be valid for two years after the date of the examination. This implies that, for a candidate who wrote the NSC examination in 2009, the SBA is valid until 2011, and for a candidate who wrote the NSC examination in 2010, the SBA is valid until 2012. The SBA, PAT, Practical Assessment and oral marks of the candidates writing the NSC examination of 2011 will be valid up until November 2013.
