The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is undertaking a special project to supply a textbook per learner for Life Sciences in Grade 12 in 2011. |
2. |
This project supports the introduction of the new subject content for Life Sciences in Grade 12 in 2011, and, in particular, effective learning and teaching in Life Sciences. |
3. |
Circular 0005/2008, dated 13.12.2008, which outlines the new subject content for Life Sciences, as listed in the National Curriculum Statement Grades 10 - 12 (General), is applicable.
|
4. |
The Life Sciences textbooks for Grade 12, listed on the attached abstract from the National Textbook Catalogue Grades 10 to 12 (Annexure A), have been revised by publishers and screened by the national Department of Basic Education. |
5. |
Life Sciences textbooks for Grade 12 should be chosen from the same published series which the school ordered for their Grade 10 and Grade 11 Life Sciences learners in 2008 and 2009 respectively. |
6. |
The requisition form, Annexure A, requires that the school indicate their choice of Grade 12 Life Sciences textbook and the number of Grade 12 learners who will be taking Life Sciences in 2011, and then nominate a bookseller, who will be contracted by the WCED to deliver the books. |
7. |
Requisition forms must be signed by the principal and stamped with the official school stamp. |
8. |
Requisition forms must be submitted by hand or post by no later than Friday, 13 August 2010 to the following address:

9. |
Once the books have been supplied, they must be included in the school's inventory and supplied to learners on the first day of school in 2011. Learners must be instructed in how to care for the books and a procedure must be established for the retrieval of the books at the end of the year. WCED officials will be required to monitor the implementation of these requirements when they visit schools. |
10. |
The WCED is pleased to provide these textbooks to schools and trusts that they will be well used to further the quality of learning and teaching in Life Sciences. |
