1. The fact that behaviour is best influenced at an early age has prompted the City of Cape Town to announce the above competition for learners at primary schools in its municipal area.
2. The following are the competition details:
  • Entrants will be grouped into two categories:
    • Grades R to 3
    • Grades 4 to 7
  • Entrants will be grouped into two categories:
  • A first, second and third prize will be awarded in each category. The schools of the winning learners will also receive a small prize.
  • To enter the competition, each learner must create a poster emphasising the health benefits of hand washing.
  • Each entry must be on A3-size paper. (Schools that require such paper will be able to collect it from the nearest Environmental Health Office of the City of Cape Town. A list of these offices and their addresses is attached.)
  • Each entry must have the following written on the back:
    • Name and grade of the learner
    • Name of the learner's school
    • Name and contact number of the teacher concerned

  • The closing date for the submission of all entries is 11 May 2010.
  • All entries must be handed in at the nearest Environmental Health Office.
  • All entries for the competition become the property of the City of Cape Town.
3. We attach an information leaflet from the Health Portfolio Committee of the City of Cape Town emphasising the importance of hand washing.
4. Schools, principals, teachers, and centre managers are kindly requested to encourage learners to participate in this competition so that, through a creative medium, they can learn more about the health benefits of hand washing.
