1. It is with regret that the Directorate: IMGP (Schools) has to inform you that the RCL Conference has been postponed from Saturday, 18 September 2010 to Saturday, 05 March 2011.
2. The RCL Conference was postponed as a result of the industrial strike action which affected our scheduled conference in the following manner:
2.1 There was a very poor response from the schools which had to fax Head Office the names of the learners and teacher liaison officers (TLOs) who were going to attend the conference. This was so because:

  • learners and/or educators were not at school and, therefore, could not submit the relevant names to Head Office timeously, to finalise the transport and accommodation arrangements;
  • parents were reluctant to give their consent for the learners to attend as they were concerned about the safety of the learner(s).
2.2 Many schools are also running 'catch-up' programmes on Saturdays, to make up for time lost owing to the strike. This would prevent many learners from attending the conference.
3. Consequently, it was decided to postpone the conference to 05 March 2011, as it would be seen as fruitless expenditure to continue with a poorly attended conference. We apologise for any inconvenience experienced as a result of this postponement.
4. We shall inform schools of the new arrangements in due course.
5. Please bring the contents of this minute to the attention of all concerned.
