The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) will offer the May 2010 ABET Level 4 examinations in accordance with the applicable rules, criteria and standards. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE EXAMINATION WILL BE CONDUCTED FROM 3 MAY 2010 UNTIL 25 MAY 2010. |

All registered WCED community learning centres are requested to enter their candidates for examinations in the learning areas of their choice, offered by the WCED, provided that the candidates have completed all the unit standards in the learning areas concerned. |

The examination in a learning area counts 50%, while the remaining 50% will be derived from moderated site-based assessment portfolios. NO LEARNERS MUST BE ALLOWED TO ENTER A LEARNING AREA IF SUCH LEARNER HAS NOT COMPLETED THE SITE-BASED ASSESSMENT FOR THE LEARNING AREA. LEARNERS WITH NO SITE-BASED ASSESSMENT MARKS WILL NOT BE RESULTED. |

Centre managers are requested to complete one of the enclosed entry forms for each candidate who wishes to enter for the examinations. Should a candidate be absent, owing to illness or other unavoidable circumstances, such candidate's entry form must be signed by the centre manager, who must also indicate, next to his or her signature, that the candidate was absent. |

Regarding the request for an "entry type" on the form, please use the appropriate code to indicate whether the candidate is from a departmental (public) or an independent (industry) adult learning centre. |

Note that no changes in learning areas will be allowed after the entries have been finalised. Entry forms must, therefore, be completed accurately. |

All completed entry forms, arranged in alphabetical order, and Annexure A must reach the Directorate: Examinations Administration by Thursday, 1 April 2010. No late entries will be accepted.

Guidelines on standardisation, appeals and certification can be found in Circular 0027/2004 and must be read in conjunction with the document, National Policy on the Conduct of the ABET Level 4 Examinations,(Government Gazette 23590, 2002), which was provided to public adult learning centres in 2002. |
