| REGISTRATION OF CANDIDATES FOR THE SENIOR CERTIFICATE EXAMINATIONS OF MAY- JUNE 2010 AND 2011 |

Please note the following important regulation concerning the registration of candidates for the Senior Certificate Examination which will be phased out in June 2011. Only candidates who were registered or wrote the Senior Certificate Examination in 2009 or prior to 2009, qualify to be registered for the 2010 and 2011 Senior Certificate Examinations.

In exceptional circumstances, candidates who have successfully completed Grade 11 in terms of the old curriculum have been granted permission by the Head of Department to write the 2010 Senior Certificate Examination.

It has come to the attention of the WCED that Centre Managers and Heads of Private Colleges are enrolling candidates, even candidates as young as 14 years of age, who do not meet the criteria to be registered for the Senior Certificate Examination. Furthermore, it is evident that a large number of the candidates registered for the May/June 2010 Senior Certificate Examination did not sit for the examination in 2009 or earlier.

The WCED regards this in a very serious light and is in the process of investigating the matter.

Centre Managers and Heads of Colleges are requested to provide evidence by no later than 20 April 2010 to the effect that candidates meet the criteria for registration. Where it is found that Centre Managers or Heads of Colleges and candidates provided incorrect information on the registration forms in order to qualify for registration, the registration of the candidate and/or the candidate's results will be declared null and void. This will constitute an irregularity.

A candidate may only be registered for the May - June 2011 examination if a certified copy of a previous Grade 12 advice of results is attached or the examination number of the candidate is provided.

Please ensure that candidates to be registered for the 2011 Senior Certificate Examination comply with the requirements outlined in the National Policy Government Gazette of 6 July 2007 and in Circular 0058/2007 of 1 November 2007.
