The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has arranged training courses in career guidance for teachers of Life Orientation in Grades 7 to 9. This is part of its ongoing commitment to ensure that only qualified teachers offer career guidance in schools. Life Orientation teachers are encouraged to enrol for one of the courses detailed below. |

The training is divided into two courses: |
| 2.1 |
Level 1:
This is a one-day entry-level training course aimed at Grade 7 to 9 Life Orientation teachers who have never taken a career guidance course. This is an entry-level course which will enable teachers to apply for an accredited training course on the next level. |
| 2.2 |
Level 2:
This is a three-day SAQA-accredited career counselling course which is open only to teachers who have already completed the Level 1 course. This advanced course provides Life Orientation teachers with a recognised qualification to offer career guidance at schools. |
| 3. |
Both these courses will be offered this year and are aimed at enabling teachers to guide learners in the senior phase to make informed decisions about their subject choices in the Further Education and Training band. This training is regarded as extremely important as too many learners make inappropriate subject choices, resulting in poor performance or even dropping out of school. |

Please carefully study the course schedules below before submitting an application on the attached application form (Annexure A). |

This course is open to all Grades 7 to 9 teachers who have not taken such a course previously.

| 7. |
Teachers from rural districts will be reimbursed for travel expenses. Those who intend to claim for these expenses must have the following information available at the course:
- PERSAL number
- Make, model, year of manufacture and engine capacity of vehicle used
- Distance in kilometres from school to venue, and odometer readings

| 8. |
Teachers from the rural districts who require accommodation must make their own arrangements. These teachers must submit their claims for accommodation expenses on the day of the course, or on the last day of the course, before they leave. |
