1. The attached timetable for the October 2010 ABET Level 4 Examinations has just been received from the Department of Higher Education and Training. The examinations will commence on 26 October 2010 and end on 16 November 2010. All examination sessions will start at 14:00. As these examinations are a national process, the dates and times are applicable to the whole country and no deviation from the timetable will be allowed.
2. As in the past, education district officials, Head Office officials and Umalusi representatives will monitor the examination process. A monitor may be allowed to monitor an examination only if he or she produces proof of identity and a letter authorising him or her to monitor on behalf of the office concerned.
3. Should a centre's examinations be conducted on the premises of a mainstream school, the centre manager must make prior arrangements for the use of the strongroom, the administration section, classrooms, ablution facilities, etc.
4. Centre Managers must ensure that their chief invigilators and invigilators are well-trained and are able to invigilate the examinations properly.
5. The centre manager must manage all administrative matters pertaining to the examinations and must, therefore, be at the examination centre before the commencement and at the end of each examination session.
6. No candidate may be allowed into an examination room unless he or she has produced a letter of admission and his or her bar-coded identity document. Candidates from other countries may produce a passport instead of an identity document.
7. Centre managers are requested to:
7.1 provide all their educators and candidates with the timetable as soon as possible to enable them to make their final preparations for the examinations; and
7.2 remind all their candidates that their identity documents and letters of admission must be produced before they enter the examination room in order to prevent any identity fraud. If a candidate is allowed to write an examination without the valid identity document and letter of admission, the matter will be treated as an irregularity, pending a Departmental investigation into the legitimacy of the candidate who wrote that examination.
8. Kindly wish the candidates well for the examinations on behalf of the Western Cape Education Department.
