POSTPONEMENT OF THE GRADES 1 - 6 AND GRADE 9 ANNUAL NATIONAL ASSESSMENTS


1. The Department of Basic Education has informed all provinces that the Annual National Assessments (ANAs) for Grades 1 - 6 and Grade 9 scheduled to be written in November 2010 have been postponed. These ANAs will be written in Term 1 of 2011. Schools will be informed once the dates have been set.
2. Since the results of the ANAs in Grades 1 - 6 in Numeracy/Mathematics and Literacy/Languages were to be included as one of the formal recorded assessment tasks for Term 4 in 2010, schools are advised to continue with their own internal assessment tasks in Numeracy/Mathematics and Literacy/Languages in Term 4, as they did in 2008.
3. The process for Grade 9 learners is not affected since all schools set their own internal examinations.
4. The Annual National Assessments should not be confused with the WCED Systemic Tests. The WCED will administer the provincial systemic tests for Grades 3, 6 and 9 in the period 6 - 19 October 2010.
