1. Copies of Reflections 1, 2 and 3, each containing dissertations on various topics, were distributed to WCED institutions between 2007 and 2009. These papers are aimed at encouraging new thinking and open debate on how WCED could enhance its service to schools. Responses from those who have already interacted with the documents have been positive.
2. The 26 papers have now been summarised and categorised under four sections:
(i) Vision and mission of WCED;
(ii) Provision of inclusive quality education;
(iii) Expanding the skills base of the Western Cape;
(iv) Higher education in the Western Cape.

The summaries highlight priorities and challenges for WCED.
3. Hard copies of these summaries will be sent to schools in the near future.
4. WCED staff are encouraged to engage critically with the content of these papers and to create space for debate amongst themselves and other components of the Department. It is hoped that all concerned find the contents illuminating and refreshing.
