In terms of the redesign, Safe Schools is now located within the Directorate: Office of the SG, under the subdirectorate: Education Safety Management (ESM). The subdirectorate is also responsible for ensuring the implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and adherence to the OHSA and the Minimum Information Security Standard (MISS). This minute must be read in conjunction with the OHSA and MISS.

Education Safety Management (ESM) is currently reviewing the existing evacuation and emergency procedures, and has identified gaps with regard to human resources.

Volunteers to serve as floor marshals, secunde, fire marshals and first aider are required.

We therefore urgently request the directors to identify and furnish ESM with the names of at least two volunteers on each floor who will serve in the various responsibilities required by the OHSA.

As the WCED only occupies certain floors in Atterbury House and the Sanlam building, the WCED will follow the procedures of the building concerned. The WCED is, however, still responsible for identifying its own floor marshals, secunde, fire marshals and first aider in these buildings.

Directors are urged to mail the list of volunteers to the Emergency Manager as soon as possible.
