The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) realises the importance of providing its employees with the necessary guidance and support for adopting a healthy lifestyle. To this end, the WCED has introduced the Employee Health and Wellness Programme to provide employees with assistance when they have to deal with life's challenges and crises. The programme emphasises the need to be proactive in order to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

The WCED arrange a Health and Wellness Day programme for all its employees in the Metro South Education District, with a focus on the Mitchell's Plain area. It will take place from 14:00 - 16:00 on Thursday, 12 March 2009 at the Rocklands Civic Centre in Mitchell's Plain.

The following free services, amongst others, will be offered:
- Awareness of counselling services
- TB awareness
- HIV/AIDS awareness
- Substance abuse awareness
- Cholesterol check
- Hypertension check
- Pap-smear information
- Breast cancer information
- Guidance on nutrition
- Holistic massage therapy
- Nail and hand care
- Goodie bags

It will be appreciated if line managers could arrange for all employees to make use of these free services, whilst still ensuring that essential services are not disrupted.
