1. In terms of the Provincial Framework on HIV and AIDS in the workplace, each department must train one person per 50 employees as a peer educator.
2. The role and function of a peer educator is to (a) create awareness of HIV and AIDS at an informal level, (b) refer employees to the relevant support structures; and (c) create awareness of the Employee Wellness Programme amongst colleagues.
3. The peer educator training will offer an opportunity to those employees who wish to play a role in addressing the HIV pandemic. A typical peer educator should be a good and impartial listener, have a desire to help his or her fellow man, and be a person who can be trusted to maintain confidential information.
4. Details of the 3-day training course for peer educators are as follows:

Time: 08h00 to 16h00 each day
Dates: 6, 7 & 8 July 2009
Venue: Kromme Rhee, Stellenbosch

5. It would be appreciated if you would nominate employees at any level who wish to become peer educators. Kindly note that the training session is for office-based public servants only.
6. A peer educator application form is attached for completion by each nominee and his or her line manager. The completed form must be faxed, for the attention of Nokwanda Zamxaka, to fax number 086 549 0004 by 26 June 2009. Note that completion of the application form does not guarantee acceptance for the training course.
7. Your co-operation in making the training a success will be much appreciated
