1. In order to enable school principals to make the necessary arrangements to collect and check the results, the following information and dates are provided. Kindly note that these dates and times are tentative and that any changes in the arrangements will be communicated to you. Education district offices will be kept fully informed.

1.1Tuesday, 7 January 2010 at 08:00:
NB: Not before 08:00		Principals, centre managers/delegated
staff members to obtain results at
education district offices.
1.2 Principals/Centre managers are given 4 hours to check the results for any obvious errors. These errors must be clarified by contacting the Directorate: Examinations Administration.
1.3Thursday, 7 January 2010 at 12:00:Results may be given to candidates at the respective
schools/centres;

NB: The original statement of results for individual candidates will be included in the pack to schools. Schools should inform candidates and parents that they will no longer receive their results in the post;

NO results may be made known to candidates and NO information in this regard may be given to the press before 12:00.

1.4Thursday, 7 January 2010 at 09:00:MEC Education releases the provincial
results at Leeuwenhof.
1.5Thursday, 7 January 2010 at 15:00:Results on the WCED website:
http://wced.wcape.gov.za;

Candidates will have to enter their examination numbers and their identity numbers in order to view their individual results on the WCED website.

1.6Friday, 8 January 2010 at 05:00:    Results in the press.
1.7Tuesday, 12 January 2010 after 12:00:Results not collected will be
posted to the schools/ centres by the education district offices.
2. The department must be informed about arrangements that schools/centres will make to collect their results. Principals/Centre managers are requested to complete the accompanying form and to send it to the education district office director by 4 December 2009. This information will also be used to contact those principals/centre managers invited to attend the Awards Ceremony on 7 January 2010 at Leeuwenhof.
3. It is of the utmost importance that candidates who do not pass the examination are offered support and counselling and candidates must be informed that such services are available. Counselling can be given at the school when candidates receive their results or, if applicable, at the relevant education district offices where departmental staff will be available. If a principal/centre manager refers a candidate to an education district office, the principal must give the candidate the telephone number and address of the education district office and provide the education district office with the candidate's details. Often candidates who require counselling do not voluntarily seek counselling and an appeal is made to principals to be sensitive of the emotions of candidates whose expectations have not been realised.
4. RELEASE OF INFORMATION TO THE MEDIA

The media will also be interested in obtaining information from schools on candidates who have performed exceptionally well in the National Senior Certificate examination. Principals and centre managers may provide such information and photographs to the media in consultation with parents.
