1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) arranges training for Life Orientation teachers on an ongoing basis. This is to ensure that teachers are confident and competent to offer appropriate career guidance to grade 7 learners in primary schools.
2. This notice serves to inform schools that the next round of training courses in the PACE: World of Work for Learning Outcome 5 (GET) are to be offered to Grade 7 Life Orientation teachers who have not received training in this programme before. These courses will take place on 17th October 2009, 31st October 2009 and 7th November 2009 in various education districts. (See schedule below for dates and venues.)
3. This is a one-day course specifically aimed at training Grade 7 teachers to assist learners in making subject choices at high schools. Limited course places are available and enrolment for the course will take place on a first come, first served basis.
4. Only one teacher per school will be accepted for the course. Schools are therefore requested to send in their nominations not later than 8 October 2009. See annexure A attached.

6. Teachers from rural districts will be reimbursed for travelling expenses. Those who intend to claim for these expenses must have the following information available at the course:

  • PERSAL number;
  • Make, model, year of manufacture and engine capacity of vehicle used;
  • Distance in kilometres from school to venue, and odometer readings.
7. Teachers from the rural districts who require accommodation must make their own arrangements. These teachers must submit their claims for accommodation expenses on the day of the course before they leave.
8. Principals are requested to fax the completed registration form (Annexure A) to Mr J. Sitzer, Deputy Chief Education Specialist: Life Orientation(GET) at fax no. 021 467 2258 or 021 467 2620 by 8 October 2009.
9. Principals are reminded that attendance at this course may be taken into consideration when completing teachers' IQMSs.
