1. The national Department of Education has confirmed that all Grade 7 learners should participate in Career Dress-Up Day, to be held on 8 October 2009 as part of International Career Day.
2. This exercise is aimed at making Grade 7 learners aware of the importance of exploring possible future careers. Life Orientation teachers are requested to plan activities, i.e. role play, presentations, simulations, etc., in which Grade 7 learners dress up for their possible careers.
3. Some ideas on possible activities for this event are to be found in the attached Addendum A.
4. Through this event learners are encouraged to think seriously about their future career options.
5. The implications of this exercise are two-fold: To make Grade 7 learners aware of their future subject choices and, secondly, to encourage them to explore their possible career pathways.
6. Posters to highlight this event are available from the GET Life Orientation curriculum advisers in your district. Teachers are requested to display these posters on walls or notice boards during that week.
7. The Western Cape Education Department urges all principals to support this initiative by allowing Grade 7 learners to be part of this exercise.
8. Kindly bring this minute to the attention of Grade 7 Life Orientation teachers.
