Study Mate and Studiepêl
The DoE will develop two editions of Study Mate and Studiepêl. The first 16-page tabloid-format edition will be published in March 2010. The publication will be distributed to district offices at the end of the first term. This edition will contain the Know the Expert series. It will assist Grade 12 candidates to plan for the 2010 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.

The second edition will be printed in June and will be distributed to district offices at the end of the second term, which will enable learners to work through it during the five-week vacation. This 48-page publication will include exemplar NSC question papers set by teachers and verified by DoE subject specialists.

3. Independent Newspapers - Study Mate - Past papers and DVDs
The DoE and Independent Newspapers will produce an edition of Study Mate focusing on all high-registration subjects, consisting of March 2009 and March 2010 supplementary NSC examination question papers with marking memorandums. This edition will be available directly from Independent Newspapers.

DVDs, focusing on high-registration subjects, have been produced. They feature expert teachers and DoE curriculum specialists assisting learners with examination question papers, explaining common errors and giving useful tips. These are available as a package with Study Mate past papers. The DVDs are available only in English.

4. Independent Newspapers - Study Mate - Past papers
The DoE, together with Independent Newspapers, will produce a set of DVDs and workbooks for Grades 10, 11 and 12 to assist learners with difficult examination questions. The DVDs will be available directly from Independent Newspapers.

5.

Sunday Times - Exemplar question papers
In the 3rd term of 2010, Avusa Media will publish a 52-page tabloid-format book, consisting of exemplar examination question papers and memoranda for Grade 12 learners, to be included in the Sunday Times and Sowetan.

Approximately 700 000 copies will be distributed in these two newspapers. An additional 500,000 copies will be printed for distribution to schools. Parents and teachers are encouraged to purchase these newspapers and provide the supplement to Grade 12 learners. The exemplar papers will be set by expert teachers, in consultation with DoE subject specialists in English FAL, Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Accounting, Tourism, History and Geography.

6. Maths 911 (Liberty Life) and Matric Matters on DSTV (Mindset)
Liberty Life and Independent Newspapers have developed Maths 911 for Grades 10, 11 and 12. These books will be donated to 200 schools chosen by Liberty Life. Additional books will be available for purchase directly from Independent Newspapers. The content of these books will be available on the Thutong and DoE websites.

Matric Matters, a supplement which appears weekly in the Independent Newspapers publications, will be linked to the Maths 911 books. The Mindset programmes on DSTV will also provide support.

7. Bumper Activity Packs
The DoE, in consultation with various private sector education providers, intend producing an activity pack for learners to use during the June-July 2010 school holidays. It is suggested that learners be provided with activities to sustain them during that five weeks' holiday period. Separate packs will be developed for Grade 10, 11 and 12. Each pack will probably include exemplar question papers for Grades 10, brain teasers, enjoyable activities, and tickets to educational films and tuition in various subjects. The package will be linked to the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
8. Thutong website
Subject specialists at the DoE will continue to maintain learning sections on the various subjects on the Thutong website. A special section has been created to provide support for Grade 12 learners in 2010. This space will contain messages from the Minister, current news, a countdown-to-the-final-exams feature, encouragement to candidates, exemplar examination question papers, tips on how to prepare for the examinations and the NSC examinations timetable.

9. Mintek - Minquiz 2010
Mintek will host the annual Minquiz, a national Maths and Science competition for Grade 12 learners, during the long holiday in June-July 2010. Four hundred schools, including Dinaledi schools, will participate in the competition. Only schools that achieved an average mark of at least 40% in both Maths and Science in the 2009 National Senior Certificate examinations will be eligible to participate. Mintek will provide past Minquiz questions on the DoE and Thutong websites.

10. Monitoring of and support for Dinaledi and NSLA schools
The DoE will be monitoring 200 Dinaledi schools and other selected schools in the country. Where needed, support will be provided.

11. The WCED will support teachers with targeted training in selected subjects, based on an analysis of the 2009 examinations results. Other forms of support will include radio programmes, e-learning platforms, exemplars, advocacy and the purchase and supply of related study support materials for 2010. The WCED will purchase selected material mentioned above for selected schools, and in some cases for all schools in the province.

12. A telematic programme that beams lessons live to selected schools will commence in April 2010 for a fifteen-week period. Subjects that will be presented will include Mathematics, Physical Science, Life Science, Accounting, English (FAL) and Afrikaans (HL). Lessons that were beamed to schools in 2009 in the above-mentioned subjects will be sent to schools in CD format in February 2010.

13. In January 2010, the WCED will provide an e-Learning Platform that will ensure an interactive work amongst teachers, learners and curriculum advisers/planners in the following subjects: English FAL, Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and Accounting.
