1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has completed Phase 2 of the design of its online inventory, and schools can now complete their inventories and the WCED questionnaire online.
2. For this purpose, the WCED will grant all the schools offering Physical Sciences in Grades 10-12 access to its online inventory from 16 November 2009 to 12 March 2010.
3. Schools can access the online inventory by means of their CEMIS number and pin.
4. The data from the schools who submitted their completed questionnaires and inventories on time has already been captured online. These schools, therefore, only have to update their data in respect of stock on hand.
5. The remaining schools will have to complete the entire questionnaire and inventory online themselves.
6. The completed questionnaire and inventory must be captured online by every WCED school offering Physical Sciences in Grades 10-12 by 12 March 2010. Thereafter, schools must update their questionnaire and inventory regularly, at least once a month.
7. Curriculum advisers in the various districts have been trained to provide assistance to their schools and may be contacted for help.
8. The web address of the WCED online inventory is http://cemis.wcape.gov.za. To assist schools in capturing their data online, the WCED has provided a User Guide. (Refer to the attachment.)
9. Before a school can capture its data online, it must have a completed hard copy of its inventory and questionnaire. Hard copies of the inventory, questionnaire and User Guide can be downloaded from the Physical Sciences web site at http://curriculum.pgwc.gov.za/site/52/page/ view. After you have opened the web site, just click on "Events".
10. The WCED thanks all concerned for their co-operation and expresses its gratitude to the Centre for e-Innovation for designing the online inventory.
11. Kindly bring the contents of this minute to the attention of teachers responsible for the Physical Sciences.
