1. The Cape Town Holocaust Centre is offering History educators and curriculum advisers an afternoon workshop conducted by the internationally renowned scholar and educator, Deborah Dwork. The workshop will be held on 13 August 2009 from 14:00 to 18:00 on the topic: Voices and views: A history of the Holocaust. The workshop will be based on her teacher-training, college and university courses and will also include a session on the role of educators in schools.
2. Deborah Dwork is the Professor of Holocaust History and Genocide Studies at Clark University in the United States. In addition to her university lecturing, she is a guest teacher throughout the United States and conducts teacher workshops at every level of the education system. Professor Dwork has received many academic awards and honours and has written a number of books. These include a book co-authored with Robert Jan van Pelt on which a seven-part BBC documentary series was based and Children with a Star, a book that was translated into several languages and was the subject of a documentary produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Company.
3. This will be an extremely valuable workshop for curriculum advisers and History educators. Those wishing to attend the workshop must please reply by 26 June 2009 to Marlene Silbert at the Cape Town Holocaust Centre using the attached form.
