1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) supports the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) with subjects in the National Curriculum Statement (NCS).
2. All public secondary schools have been supported in this process through the provision of Khanya computer laboratories.
3. The ICT Unit within Curriculum Development has worked with deputy education specialists to build subject and learning area Web portals.
4. Each subject has a web page that can be accessed through the curriculum website at http://curriculum.pgwc.gov.za The web page contains contact details of deputy education specialists, subject policies and guidelines, as well as useful links to other websites that will assist teachers with their planning.
5. It should also be mentioned that the newly-established e-Learning Directorate has, as one of its aims, a provincial learning management system for teachers.
6. Khanya labs have been provided with subject-related software. It is recommended that teachers and learners make use of the available technology and the subject related software to improve their understanding of the subject, especially the interpretation of new content.
7. The WCED has published a guideline document to assist teachers in integrating ICT with teaching and learning.
