1. The WCED has received several complaints regarding the standard and fairness of certain questions in specific learning areas in the 2009 Common Tasks for Assessment (CTA).
2. After careful consideration and comment from learning area specialists, the WCED has decided to adapt the Grade 9 resulting system to ensure that learners are not unfairly disadvantaged in the learning areas, Arts and Culture, isiXhosa First Additional Language and Natural Sciences.
3. Teachers must mark according to the memoranda provided by the national Department of Basic Education (DoBE). Schools cannot omit any section of the memorandum nor make their own adjustments.
4. Raw marks as obtained by the learners for the Section B of the CTA must be recorded using the WCED grade 9 resulting programme, which must be downloaded from CEMIS from 27 November 2009.
5. The grade 9 resulting programme will contain WCED approved adjustments for the three learning areas and will automatically calculate the final Term 4 result as well as the final promotion mark per learning area.
6. School principals are required to ensure that the marks on the learners' report cards are the same as on the final approved schedule.
7. Kindly inform all teachers about the contents of this minute.
