1. Introduction
1.1 Moderation of site-based assessment tasks by education district officials is an important quality assurance procedure, as it ensures compliance with policy and allows valuable feedback to educators and centre managers.
1.2 Provincial moderation and verification is also conducted to verify whether the moderation of site-based assessment tasks has been conducted in an effective and consistent manner in the various education districts.

2. Provincial verification meeting
2.1 The WCED provincial verification meeting is scheduled to take place as follows:

  • Date:    29 - 30 September 2009
  • Time:    08:00 - 16:00
  • Venue:  West Coast Education District Office (Paarl).
2.2 The programme for this meeting is attached to this minute as Annexure A.

2.3 AET Curriculum Advisers are requested to bring 3 portfolios and 3 workbooks per learning area from all centres registered for the October/November 2009 examination. The portfolios must be selected and submitted in accordance with the following requirements:

  • 1 X learner portfolio and workbook with the overall SBA mark between 70% and 100%;
  • 1 X learner portfolio and workbook with the overall SBA mark between 40% and 69%;
  • 1 X learner portfolio and workbook with the overall SBA mark below 40%.
2.4 AET Curriculum Advisers must provide the following documentation, which will be used for verifying moderation processes at the district level:

  • Education District's moderation reports - including reports on the standard setting meeting and monitoring meeting held in the district;
  • The AET Curriculum Adviser's moderation files containing the moderation forms and policy documentation;
  • Educator portfolios per centre per learning area that must accompany the learner portfolios.
3. AET Curriculum Advisers are requested to attend the provincial moderation feedback session as indicated on the programme.
