1. This minute must be read in conjunction with Circular 0049/2008, dated 8 December 2008, which informed National Senior Certificate (NSC) candidates about the prescribed literature that would be examined from November 2009 until March 2012.
2. The question papers for Home Language Paper 2 and First Additional Language Paper 2 for all 11 official languages for the 2009 NSC examinations will be set by the national Department of Education for the first time in 2009. This means that the Home Language and First Additional Language literature question papers (Paper 2) for NSC part-time candidates and candidates repeating Grade 12 in 2009 will be the same paper as that written by the NSC full-time candidates in 2009.
3. All part-time candidates and candidates repeating the Grade 12 literature examinations (Paper 2) in 2009, are therefore expected to answer questions on the nationally prescribed setworks for 2009, as indicated in Circular 0049/2008.
4. In the case of Second Additional Languages, the provincial examiners of the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) will set the literature papers for the WCED's candidates, as the setworks prescribed for Second Additional Language literature differ across the provinces. The prescribed works for Second Additional Languages are listed in Appendix H of Circular 0049/2008.
5. School principals are kindly requested to ensure that all part-time candidates, candidates repeating Grade 12 and the relevant teachers are informed of the content of this minute, so that candidates can prepare accordingly for the 2009 NSC literature examinations.
