1. We wish to express our gratitude to all schools for submitting their school improvement plans (SIPs) for 2008. A special word of thanks to those who submitted amended SIPs with targets. By now you know that the SIP is the key document guiding the improvement activities at the school.
2. We urge each school to implement its 2008 SIP.
3. For 2009, the WCED has set itself the goal of ensuring that every school has a SIP with targets for the 2009 school year. The Directorate: Quality Assurance, in collaboration with the education districts, is already working towards this goal.
4. The following steps will be taken to ensure that each primary school hands in its SIP with targets by 28 November 2008, and that each high school hands in its SIP by 31 January 2009:
  • There will be information sessions for principals and school management teams on the SIP for 2009.
  • Support will be given to schools by education district offices or the Directorate: Quality Assurance.
  • The Directorate: Quality Assurance will train education district officials to provide support to schools.
  • Progress towards achieving the targets of November and January will be monitored.
5. The Directorate: Quality Assurance acknowledges that schools have a year programme and that is why this early notification is being sent to all schools. The Directorate: Quality Assurance will disseminate a detailed management plan, with dates, in the near future.
6. Your co-operation in this regard will be appreciated.
