1. The Western Cape Education Department wishes to inform schools of the MAKRO Cadetship Work & Study initiative. This commendable partnership is aimed at re-investing in communities through education, while, at the same time, attempting to create opportunities for employment for successful Grade 12 learners.
2. The company is offering successful Grade 12 candidates (2007 and 2008) an internship programme, coupled with an opportunity to secure a full bursary to study for a B.Com degree, specialising in Management, as well as an opportunity to secure a managerial position with the company after successfully completing their studies.

Proposed time frame: August - December 2008

Stage 2

At the end of 2008, once the results of these candidates are known, a further selection process will see the top 10 candidates being offered a one-year contract to work at MAKRO, whilst being registered with UNISA to study towards a B.Com (Management) degree.

Successful applicants will

  • attend part-time UNISA lectures at local venues in Cape Town;
  • receive on-the-job training and mentoring at Makro;
  • gain valuable in-service experience on the shop floor; and
  • be given opportunities to participate in other management-related training within the company.
