The Cadetship Work & Study Programme is structured as follows:
Stage 1
A pool of 20 - 25 successful applicants will start working at the two Western Cape MAKRO stores on a casual, paid basis once a week. (Care will be taken to minimise the impact on preparation for the 2008 final examinations.)
Proposed time frame: August - December 2008
Stage 2
At the end of 2008, once the results of these candidates are known, a further selection process will see the top 10 candidates being offered a one-year contract to work at MAKRO, whilst being registered with UNISA to study towards a B.Com (Management) degree.
Successful applicants will
- attend part-time UNISA lectures at local venues in Cape Town;
- receive on-the-job training and mentoring at Makro;
- gain valuable in-service experience on the shop floor; and
- be given opportunities to participate in other management-related training within the company.
After this stage, the successful B.Com graduates should be able to secure a managerial position with the company.
