1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) realises the importance of providing its employees with the necessary guidance and support for adopting a healthy lifestyle. To this end, the WCED has introduced the Employee Health and Wellness Programme to provide employees with assistance when they have to deal with life’s challenges and crises. The programme emphasises the need to be proactive in order to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
2. The WCED has arranged a Wellness Day programme for all its employees in the Metro Central District. It will take place from 12:00 to 15:30 on Thursday, 22 May 2008 at the Athlone Civic Centre at the corner of Eland and Protea Roads in Athlone.
3. The following free services, amongst others, will be offered:
  • Awareness of counselling services
  • TB awareness
  • HIV/AIDS awareness
  • Substance abuse awareness
  • Cholesterol check
  • Hypertension check
  • Pap-smear information
  • Breast cancer information
  • Guidance on nutrition
  • Holistic massage therapy
  • Nail and hand care
  • Goodie bags
4. Each employee will require approximately 25 minutes to make use of these Wellness Day services.
5. It will be appreciated if line managers would arrange for all employees to make use of these free services, whilst still ensuring that essential services are not disrupted.
6. Please bring this minute to the attention of all WCED-employed staff in the Metro Central District.
