1. The National Curriculum Statement (NCS) Grades 10 - 12 (General) is being implemented incrementally during the period 2006 to 2008. The introduction of Life Orientation as a fundamental subject in the FET band requires trained teachers to ensure optimal curriculum implementation. Life Orientation calls for specialised and personalised training.

3. The University of Cape Town (UCT) will offer the ACE course as a part-time course from March 2008 to December 2009. This will lead to a NQF Level 6 qualification and will combine both distance learning and contact sessions during weekends and school holidays.
4. The bursary will cover tuition and registration fees, as well as the learning support material that will be provided by UCT. During the contact sessions, educators from rural areas will be provided with accommodation.
5. The cost of transport to and from the training venue will be covered by the WCED.
6. A total of 70 educators, 35 from the Metro districts and 35 from the rural districts will be selected for the programme.
