The South African Revenue Services (SARS) has requested all departments to postpone the issuing of IRP5/IT3(a) certificates to employees for the 2007/2008 tax year until further notice.

The reason for this are the improvements that SARS is introducing in the personal income tax process for 2008. This exercise of transforming the process from a complex manual one to a simplified automated process started in May 2007. The aim is to reduce the cost of compliance for taxpayers and to enhance the ability of SARS to detect and act against non-compliance.

The WCED will inform staff as soon as SARS has issued a date for the printing of the IRP5 certificates for the 2008 tax year.
