1. With the culmination of the curriculum change that was introduced in 1998, at the end of 2008 learners throughout South Africa will have been taught, for the first time, through a single national curriculum.
2. Learners from Grade R to Grade 12 are now fully engaged with the outcomes-based National Curriculum Statement and the "class of 2008" will be the first cohort of learners to enter the final examination for the National Senior Certificate, a qualification that significantly raises the bar.
3. All the subject examinations at Grade 12 level have been set at a national level, and the results should be a good measure of the effectiveness of the new curriculum.
4. In view of this historic milestone, the MEC for Education in the Western Cape, Yousuf Gabru, would appreciate meeting with principals and teachers to discuss the challenges they faced with the implementation of the new curriculum and to share their success and best practice stories or instances.
5. The MEC would also value recommendations, ideas and information from the principals and teachers on how best to achieve the objectives of the curriculum.
