The LIASA (Library and Information Services Association of South Africa)'s 10th Annual Conference takes place from Tuesday, 7 October, until Friday, 10 October 2008, with pre-conferences and satellite sessions on Monday, 6 October. The theme for the conference is Looking ahead: the changing role of LIS. The conference will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) and will be hosted by the Western Cape Branch of LIASA. Full details regarding the conference, registration details and the programme can be found on the official LIASA website at www.liasa.org.za.

Of particular interest to our school library/resource centre teachers/teacher-librarians is the SLYSIG (School Libraries and Youth Services Interest Group) post-conference workshop that will be held on Saturday, 11 October 2008, at Cape Town High School, Government Avenue (access off Hatfield Street), Cape Town. The draft programme, which is sent as an attachment, promises to be very informative (see also draft programme link on the LIASA website).

The closing date for pre-registration is 29 September 2008, although on-site registration on the day will also be possible. Registration fees are R150 for LIASA/SLYSIG members and R200 for non-members. Full details, as well as registration forms, are available on the website.

We encourage all teacher-librarians and teachers with an interest in school libraries/resource centres to attend this special workshop.
