1. The UNESCO-initiated World Book Day celebration is held annually on 23 April, William Shakespeare’s date of birth.
2. World Book Day celebrations reflect the importance of reading for life-long learning, cognitive development and psychological well-being. Schools are encouraged to acknowledge the value of reading by participating enthusiastically in reading-based activities on World Book Day.
3. Attached is a list of suggestions, compiled by the staff of the WCED EDULIS (WCED Education Library and Information Service), for school activities to mark World Book Day in a rewarding and an enjoyable way.
4. In depicting the spirit of World Book Day we encourage all schools to visit or contact one of the following persons to request a block loan of books for use on World Book Day:
