1. You are referred to Examinations Administration Minute No. DEA/0030/2007, dated 28 June 2007.
2. As you were previously informed, the testing has been shifted to the Grade 9 level and, although more tests would have been added, the testing will again be only in Languages and Mathematics because of the cost factor. You are also reminded that these tests are compulsory for all Grade 9 learners in the WCED mainstream schools. The testing will take place in the second term of 2008, viz. Monday, 21 April 2008 (Languages) and Wednesday, 23 April 2008 (Mathematics). Each test lasts 90 minutes.
3. Please note that the Directorate: Examinations of the WCED will be using the Central Education Management Information System (CEMIS) database to register learners for these tests. Only learners registered on 4 March 2008 on CEMIS must be allowed to write these tests on 21 and 23 April 2008. Therefore, no shortages of test papers will be accommodated, nor any CEMIS updates after 4 March 2008.
4. Where Afrikaans is the language of learning and teaching, the test papers will be supplied in Afrikaans. Where English is the language of learning and teaching, the test papers will be supplied in English, except for schools where Xhosa is the home language of most of the learners. At these schools the learners take the learning area called Languages: isiXhosa Home Language. These schools will receive language test papers in which Part 1 is set in Xhosa (to be answered in Xhosa) and Part 2 is set in English (to be answered in English).
5. A special request is made to schools to update their Grade 9 learner data on the CEMIS by no later than 4 March 2008.
6. Your co-operation will be much appreciated.
