1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) will offer the Level 4 assessment in June 2008 in accordance with the applicable rules, criteria and standards. The Directorate: Examinations will administer the assessment and the Directorate: Curriculum GET will provide the necessary curriculum assistance.
2. All registered WCED community learning centres are requested to enter their candidates for assessment in the learning areas of their choice, provided that these candidates have completed all the unit standards in the learning areas concerned. Where possible, all the learning area needs of the candidates will be met. However, the Directorate: Examinations reserves the right not to offer assessment in learning areas where there are too few entries.
3. The assessment accounts for 50% of the total mark. The other 50% will come from a moderated CASS portfolio.
4. The timetable for the June 2008 assessment will be provided in due course.
5. Centre managers are requested to complete a separate copy of the enclosed entry form for each candidate who wishes to enter for the assessment. The entry form of a candidate who is not available, owing to illness or other unavoidable circumstance, must be signed by the centre manager, who must, however, indicate next to his or her signature that the candidate was absent.
6. Entry type: Use the appropriate code to indicate whether the candidate is from a departmental (public) or an independent (industry) adult learning centre.
7. Please note that no changes in learning areas will be allowed after the entries have been processed. Entry forms must, therefore, be completed carefully and accurately.
8. All completed entry forms, arranged alphabetically, and a completed Annexure A (attached) must reach the Directorate: Examinations by Thursday, 20 March 2008. No late entries will be accepted.
9. Guidelines regarding the standardisation, appeals and certification can be found in Circular 0027/2004 and must be read in conjunction with the document, National Policy on the Conduct of the ABET Level 4 Examinations, which was provided to Public Adult Learning Centres in 2002. This document was published in Government Gazette Volume 445, 23590 of 5 July 2002 and is also available on the Internet at http://www.info.gov.za/gazette/notices/2002/23590.pdf.
