1.7Monday, 5 January 2008 after 12:00Results not collected will be posted to the schools/ centres by the education district offices.

2. The department must be informed about arrangements that schools/centres will make to collect their results. Principals/Centre managers are requested to complete the accompanying form and to send it to the education district office director by 26 November 2008. This information will also be used to contact those principals/centre managers invited to attend the Award Ceremony on 30 December 2008.

3. It is of the utmost importance that candidates who do not pass the examination are offered support and counselling and candidates must be informed that such services are available. Counselling can be given at the school when candidates receive their results or, if applicable, at the relevant education district offices where departmental staff will be available. If a principal/centre manager refers a candidate to an education district office, the principal must give the candidate the telephone number and address of the education district office and provide the education district office with the candidate's details. Often candidates who require counselling do not voluntarily seek counselling and an appeal is made to principals to be conscious of the feelings of candidates whose expectations have not been realised.

4. RELEASE OF INFORMATION TO THE MEDIA

The media will also be interested in obtaining information from schools on candidates who have performed exceptionally well in the National Senior Certificate examination. Principals and centre managers may provide such information and photographs to the media in consultation with parents. The top candidates may be identified in terms of the number of subject distinctions obtained (over 80%) in the six subjects that fulfil the requirements for the award of a National Senior Certificate (two Languages, Mathematics/Mathematical Literacy and three other subjects excluding Life Orientation).
