As you are aware, Eskom and the various municipalities are currently engaged in regular electricity shutdowns in order to achieve a 10% power saving.

The conducting of examinations in the above-mentioned subjects is, therefore, a cause of concern, especially as there is no clarity regarding definite shutdown schedules for May and June 2008.

Principals and centre managers are, therefore, kindly requested to contact their local municipalities, prior to the examination dates for the above subjects, in order to arrange an exemption from power shutdowns for their particular area during the writing of these examinations.

In the event of an electricity shut-down during the writing of an examination, the chief invigilator and the school principal must ensure that the candidates remain in the examination room until they have completed writing the examination.

The WCED must be informed immediately when an examination is disrupted.
