1. The national Department of Education has introduced a Career Dress-Up Day, which will be held on 8 October annually. This year the focus will be on Grade 7 learners.
2. This exercise is aimed at making Grade 7 learners aware of the importance of exploring their possible careers for the future and to make them think about what subjects they will need to choose at high school for their future careers.
3. Schools are requested to allow Grade 7 learners to dress up and portray their future careers and to arrange activities that will enable learners to share their future careers in different learning area lessons for that day. Learners should be creative and display their future careers in a simple but effective way. See attachment for ideas.
4. The national Education Department, in collaboration with the Pace Career Centre, has also initiated an essay competition for Grade 7 learners. Schools are invited to send in their best essays and win fabulous prizes. For more information about the essay competition, contact the Pace Career Centre at info@pacecareers.com.
5. The Western Cape Education Department urges all schools to participate in this national initiative.
6. Career Dress-Up Day posters will be distributed to all schools with Grade 7 learners from 20 September 2008. Please contact your education district office for further information.
7. Principals are requested to bring this minute to the attention of Grade 7 Life Orientation teachers.
