1. The South African Society for History Teaching (SASHT) will be holding its annual conference in Cape Town this year. This is a particularly significant conference as the conference is commemorating 350 years of formal schooling in South Africa. The keynote speaker, Mrs Jacqui Dean, is highly respected in history education in the United Kingdom. She has also been involved in a history-teaching programme in South Africa and so understands the pedagogical demands of the Social Sciences and History National Curriculum Statements.
2. As the SASHT focuses on developments within history teaching, this conference will be of value to curriculum advisers and history teachers. It is also an opportunity to make contact with advisers and teachers from other provinces.
3. Details of the conference are attached. Should anyone be interested in attending, please complete the attached application form and submit it directly to the conference organiser, Prof Rob Siebörger at the University of Cape Town.
4. Kindly bring the contents of this minute to the attention of the HODs and Subject Heads of History and all History teachers.
