1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is continuing to arrange training for Life Orientation teachers on giving effective career guidance.
2. All Life Orientation teachers should be confident and competent in the career guidance that they offer learners.
3. Training courses in the PACE: World of Work programme will be offered to Grade 7, 8 and 9 Life Orientation teachers respectively who have not received training in this programme before. Training courses for Grade 7 teachers will take place on 6 September 2008, for Grade 8 teachers, on 13 September 2008, and for Grade 9 teachers on 20 September 2008.
4. A training course in the PACE: Advise and Refer programme will be offered to Grade 10-12 Life Orientation teachers who have not received training in this programme before. This 3-day course will be held on 29 & 30 September and 1 October 2008.
5. ONE teacher per school is invited to attend each of the grade specific sessions for the GET band. ONE FET teacher per school is invited to attend the 3-day course.
6. The GET courses will be presented at the C-EI, CTI, Nooiensfontein Road, Kuils River and at Esselenpark Senior Secondary School, Buitenkant Street, Esselenpark, Worcester. Teachers from the Overberg, Cape Winelands and Eden & Central Karoo Education Districts are advised to apply to attend the courses at the Worcester venue, while teachers from the West Coast and the urban districts should apply to attend the courses at the Kuils River venue. Please indicate your preference on the attached registration form.
7. The FET course will be presented at Sarepta Senior Secondary School in Kuils River and at the Esselenpark Senior Secondary School, Buitenkant Street, Worcester.
8. All courses will commence promptly at 8:30 in the morning and will end at 16:00 in the afternoon.
9. Teachers from the rural districts will be reimbursed for travelling expenses. Teachers who intend to claim for these expenses must have the following information available at the course:
  • PERSAL number
  • Engine capacity of the vehicle used and year of manufacture
  • The kilometre distance from the school to the venue
10. Teachers from the rural districts who require accommodation must make their own arrangements. These educators must submit their claims before they leave on the day of the course.
11. A separate registration form must be completed for each individual teacher. Principals are requested to fax the completed registration form, Annexure A, to the Life Orientation Senior Curriculum Planner, Mrs DJ Christiaans, at 021 467 2258 or 021 467 2622, by no later than 8 August 2008.
12. Principals are reminded that attendance of the above courses may be taken into consideration when completing teachers' IQMSs.
13. Principals are requested to bring the contents of this minute to the attention of the Life Orientation teachers.
