1. Economics, an elective subject offering in the FET band, has four learning outcomes, namely Macro-Economics, Micro-Economics, Economic Pursuits and Contemporary Economic Issues.
2. At the end of the 2007 Micro-Economics Saturday workshops, many teachers indicated that they needed a further course in Micro-Economics to be able to teach the new Economics curriculum effectively.
3. A one-day refresher course will take place on Saturdays, as indicated in Annexure B. This course addresses Micro-Economics (Learning Outcome 2) Grade 12.
4. English speaking teachers should register with their respective education district offices. Afrikaans speaking teachers in urban districts may register at the nearest education district offering the course in Afrikaans (i.e. Metropole North or Metropole East).
5. It is recommended that all Grade 10-12 Economics teachers should attend this workshop. The course will commence promptly at 8:30 in the morning and will end at 16:00. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.
6. Teachers are requested to bring their Grade 10-12 Economics Learner Books and Teacher Guides along to the workshop.
7. Rural teachers will be reimbursed for travelling expenses. Teachers who intend to claim for these expenses must have the following information available at the course:
  • PERSAL number
  • Engine capacity of the vehicle used and year of manufacture
  • The kilometre distance from the school to the venue
8. Teachers from rural education districts who reside more than 120 kilometres from the venue and who require accommodation must make their own arrangements. These teachers must submit their claims before they leave on the day of the course.
9. Principals are requested to fax the completed registration form (Annexure A) to the Economics Curriculum Adviser at the education district office by no later than 27 June 2008. See Annexures A and B. Please indicate the correct venue on the form.
