1. A subject orientation workshop will be held for all Western Cape teachers of Engineering Graphics and Design and teachers of Civil Technology during the June 2008 school holidays. The workshops will deal with the new subject assessment requirements and will focus on the development of a practical assessment task.

The training will take place in the Eden & Karoo District, the Cape Winelands District and the Cape Town metropolitan area. Venues and times will be announced once interest in the course has been established and a service provider appointed.

Teachers who wish to attend the workshop must register with Head Office. The attached registration form (Annexure A) must be completed and submitted by 26 May 2008 to Mr V J de Bruin at e-mail address vdebruin@pgwc.gov.za or fax no. 021 467 2258. 2. Workshop requirements

Teachers must bring the following documents, which were distributed to schools, to the workshop:

  • National Curriculum Statement for Engineering Graphics and Design / Civil Technology
  • Subject assessment guidelines
  • Engineering Graphics and Design / Civil Technology PAT 2007, Revised Feb 2008
3. Accommodation and travel
3.1 Teachers requiring accommodation should book their own accommodation and may submit claims to a maximum of R750 per day (all-inclusive - dinner, bed and breakfast).
3.2 Teachers who prefer to arrange private accommodation with family or friends may claim a maximum of R200 per day. In such cases, a receipt must be attached to the claim submitted.
3.3 Teachers will also be reimbursed for travel expenses.
3.4 The WCED will not reimburse teachers for expenses incurred through the making of private telephone calls or the consumption of alcoholic beverages.
4. Claiming for expenses
4.1 Teachers must submit their claim forms to the venue manager at the venue at the end of the course.
4.2 It is, therefore, essential that each teacher brings the following to the workshop:
  • Persal number
  • Registration details of vehicle used for transport
  • Bank account details
  • All relevant invoices serving as proof of expenditure (on the last day)
4.3 Teachers making use of public transport (bus and train services) must attach official receipts to their claims. Where teachers make use of mini-buses, claims must be accompanied by either receipts or a letter from the principal stating expenditure incurred. Each teacher must submit a separate verified claim.
4.4 No teacher will be reimbursed for travel or accommodation expenses incurred en route to the training venue from his or her holiday destination, or from any other place that is not his or her permanent place of residence.
5. Principals are requested to ensure that the contents of this minute are brought to the attention of teachers of Engineering Graphics & Design and Civil Technology to Grades 10 to 12.
