1. The National Curriculum Statement for Civil Technology makes provision for the teaching of Computer-supported Drawing (CSD) in Grades 10 to 12.
2. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has been presenting training sessions for Civil Technology teachers since 2006 and is now ready to phase in this section.
3. The service provider, Knowledge Base, issued the necessary software, free of charge, to each school with a teacher who underwent training.
4. Manuals, provided during training, are also available to learners at R 57.00 per copy. Orders must be placed directly with Knowledge Base.
5. The licence, subject to stipulated conditions of usage, allows schools to install the software on their computers. Authorisation to use the software expires when the teacher who received training leaves the school.
6. Schools were also provided with software which learners could install on their computers at home.
7. CSD will be introduced into Grade 10 this year, into Grade 11 in 2009 and into Grade 12 in 2010. According to the Grade 10 work schedule, CSD is presented in the third term, and in Grades 11 and 12 in the first term.
8. The manual, Information Technology and Communication, indicates on page …… that one hour per week must be devoted to CSD during Civil Technology classes.
9. Because the Curriculum Statements for Civil Technology and Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD) indicate the introduction to CSD in Grade 10, parts of the work schedule for EGD for Grade 10 are attached for use in Civil Technology.
10. Schools will be visited this term by curriculum advisers and, where possible, by the service provider, Knowledge Base, to determine the level of readiness for the phasing in of CSD.
11. School principals are kindly requested to bring the content of this minute to the attention of the teachers and learners concerned.
