1. The attached timetable for the ABET Level 4 Examinations in October 2008 has been received from the national Department of Education. The examinations will commence on 27 October 2008 and end on 17 November 2008. Each learning area will be written from 14:00 to 17:00 on the scheduled day. As this is a national examination, the dates and times are applicable to the whole country and no deviation from the timetable can be allowed.
2. As in the past, district office and Head Office officials, as well as DOE and Umalusi representatives, will monitor the examination process.
3. Where the examinations are conducted on the premises of a mainstream school, the centre manager must make arrangements for the use of the strongroom, the administration building, classrooms, ablution facilities, etc.
4. Centres must ensure that their chief invigilators and invigilators are well-trained and are able to deal effectively with the administration of the examinations.
5. It is also the function of the centre managers to deal with administrative matters. All centre managers must, therefore, be at the examination centres before the commencement and at the end of each examination session.
6. No person may be allowed into the examination venue unless he or she has produced an admission letter and positive identification (ID document).
7. Centre managers are also requested to:
7.1 provide all their teachers and candidates with the timetable as soon as possible so as to enable them to make their final preparations for the examinations;
7.2 remind all their candidates that their identity documents and admission letters must be produced before the commencement of each examination session; and
7.3 kindly convey the Western Cape Education Department's best wishes for the examinations to all their candidates.
