1. The National Senior Certificate will be written for the first time in Grade 12 in November 2008 and the WCED thanks schools for their active participation in the Grade 11 examination of 2007. We trust that the experience was a valuable exercise in preparation for the NSC of 2008.
2. Grade 12 exemplars
2.1 The national DoE has provided the accompanying exemplar question papers and memoranda for Grade 12 to assist schools and their learners in their preparation for the end of year examination. The WCED has not received all exemplars as yet but will send the rest of the subjects in due course.
2.2 The WCED will provide one hard copy of each question paper and memorandum for the various subject papers of the NSC to each school that offers the NSC.
2.3 Schools offering CAT and IT will also receive a CD containing the files for these practical subjects.
2.4 Only schools that offer Visual Arts will receive a colour copy of this question paper.
3. Schools are requested to discuss the papers within their subject teams to gain insight into the types of questions, examination skills required, format of the papers, etc.
4. The exemplars must not be used as a formal assessment tool during the course of the year but teachers should use the insights gained from the subject discussions to prepare the learners for the final examination.
5. The exemplars are available on the DOE website and will also be available on CD at Edumedia (telephone: 021 689 9536).
6. Schools are invited to comment on these national Grade 12 exemplar question papers by posting their subject comments to the Director: Assessment Management, WCED, Private Bag X9114, Cape Town, 8000. Schools may also e-mail their comments to jparbhoo@pgwc.gov.za. The attached comment form may be used and comments should reach the WCED by no later than 7 March 2008.
7. The WCED wishes principals, teachers and learners well during this inaugural year of the National Senior Certificate at Grade 12 level.
