The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) realizes the importance of providing its employees with the necessary guidance and support for living a healthy lifestyle. To this end the WCED has introduced the Employee Health and Wellness Programme (EHWP) to provide employees with assistance when they have to deal with life's challenges and crises. The programme emphasizes the need to be proactive in order to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

The WCED has arranged a Health and Wellness Day programme in Beaufort West from 12:00 to 17:00 on 19 July 2007. The venue will be the Bastiaanse Secondary School in Beaufort West. The school's telephone number is 023 415 2550.

- TB awareness
- Voluntary HIV/AIDS counselling and testing
- Substance abuse awareness by SANCA
- Cancer awareness by the Cancer Association of South Africa

- Hypertension check
- Pap smear
- Breast cancer examination
- Awareness of counselling services
- Holistic massage therapy
- Fitness demonstration
- Nail and hand care
- Goodie bags
