1. The enclosed computerised mark lists for formative assessments must be completed by curriculum advisers for their respective learning areas.
2. Each mark list consists of an original and three carbon copies. After the moderation process has been completed and the marks entered on the computerised mark list, the two carbon copies at the bottom must be removed. One of these copies is for the examination centre's records and the other for the EMDC's records.
3. Kindly use the enclosed control list to identify the centres and to ensure that all mark lists are submitted to the Department.
4. Note that curriculum advisers are responsible for
  • the moderation of the formative assessments in their learning areas, and
  • submitting the mark lists to the Directorate: Examinations.
5. The following procedure must be followed when completing mark lists:
5.1 The learner's mark must be indicated in the appropriate column by means of three digits, e.g. 013, not 13.
5.2 Under no circumstances may a learner's mark be omitted. A mark must be awarded to each learner whose assessment number appears on the mark list. This also applies to learners who
  • have applied for a change of centre,
  • were absent for a long period of time during the year, or
  • were absent on the day of moderation.
5.3 If no mark is available for a learner, a 999 (absent) must be entered on the mark list. These learners will not receive a result in the learning area. A zero (000) mark is awarded only when a learner has submitted work that is not worth any marks.
5.4 "TOTAL" (at the bottom of the mark list) is for office use only.
6. Curriculum advisers are requested to ensure that the completed mark lists (original and the top carbon copy) reach the Directorate: Examinations, For attention: Messrs L. van Gensen & C. Slee, Western Cape Education Department, Room 529 (5th Floor), Grand Central Towers, Lower Parliament Street, Cape Town, 8001 by Friday, 1 June 2007.
